The long awaited news has arrived, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, and her husband Prince William announced the birth of their first royal child. The baby, a boy, was born at 4:24 PM, London time, and weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces. The child is now third in line to the throne.
A name has not yet been announced, and given royal customs, it may take a few days for that to happen, and for media to be notified.
Catherine delivered the baby at the same hospital where her husband, and his brother, Prince Harry, were born.

After being down for several days, Apple Corp. has finally admitted that its developer website was the victim of a hacker attack last week, and some data may have been stolen.
Although most of the information that was taken was encrypted, Apple says that there is a possibility that the hackers may be able to gain access to some the names, mailing addresses, and email addresses of developers who signed up for the service.
The site has been offline for an extended period of time, and remains down today. The company hopes to prevent future security threats by overhauling its developer systems, including updating the server software, and rebuilding their entire database.
No specific date has been given for a restoration of service for the developer website.

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake has struck off of the Pacific coast of New Zealand early this morning.
The sharp temblor caused power outages and light damage to some buildings, and is the latest in a string of quakes to strike the country since Friday.
According to the US Geological Survey, the quake was centered 57 kilometers south-southwest of the capital, Wellington. Cracks in buildings in that city, as well as other nearby areas have been reported. In addition, many buildings have had glass windows broken out in the quake.
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center has issued an advisory that quakes of this size could trigger destructive tsunamis along coasts of countries located within a hundred of kilometers of the quake’s epicenter.

Apple today has confirmed its acquisition of the popular public transit mapping and schedule app HopStop.
HopStop provides transit system directions, maps, bus and train schedules, station information via a website and Android and iOS applications. Data is available for 300 cities and metropolitan areas.
The purchase of HopStop likely means that integrated public transit information will be coming soon to Apple Maps on iOS.
This is the second mapping-related acquisition on Apple’s books this week. Yesterday, the company confirmed its purchase of Locationary, a data company that helps customers organize datasets across websites and applications.
Terms of the HopStop purchase were not made publicly available.
